Watch Frozen at the Hyperion Theatre at Disney’s California Adventure
You can watch any time during the week but we’ll watch together at 1:00PM on Thursday and have a live group chat about it on band in the LHS Review band. Sadly, some of the shows on Broadway will not reopen after the shelter in place ends. Frozen announced that it will not be coming back. So we’ll watch Frozen at the Hyperion to honor them. It’s a short show If you need something more theatrically challenging to watch, I recommend the National Theatre production of Street Car Named Desire with Gillian Andersen. It’s rated 15yrs and up due to the themes of sexual abuse and domestic violence that the characters face. It is read in classes and scenes are done from it frequently so it’s a good show to watch. Read a play from the 10 minute Play book attached.
Analyze the play for cues. Sound, Light, FX and list them. Cues are changes in the lighting, sound, FX and set of a play. 10 minute plays usually have ONE set and the cues are yours to create. There are many plays to choose from, challenge yourself. During your time sheltering in place you have the perfect opportunity to enhance your collective knowledge of theatre performance and material.
Usually, you only focus on materials that are delivered to you at school. Do you know how to find materials though? You have the internet at your disposal and it’s full of information and ways to increase your theatre content knowledge. This week, try one of the following and share it with us. Post some brief feedback and the link to the source material would be great. Read a play Read a theatre article Find a Monolog Write a scene Drama 1 = 23%
Tech = 46% Drama + = 54% BITCO = 67% Checking in, once a week, on a Tuesday, on an app on your phone. Takes 15 seconds. You are not doing your best even when it's the easiest task. A couple weeks left . . . Watch a play at the Globe Theatre

LIGHT POSITIONS & LIVE THEATRE VIEWING A closer look at Lighting Positions LIGHTING POSITIONS Although you can place lighting instruments almost anywhere, most stage lighting designers focus on five main positions. We have used all 5 in our theatre with side light being the least used. Front lights, which are the primary source of lighting for most scenes. The distinction between warm, cool and neutral front lighting establishes mood, time and place. The colors used should enhance the scenery and complement a performer's skin tone. High Side lighting, which is a light hung at an over-head angle between 30 and 60 degrees. This accentuates the top side of an actor's head, neck and shoulders. Thus, high side lighting draws special attention to the facial expressions of a performer. Back lighting, which creates depth and makes the performer appear multi-dimensional by separating them from the stage's background scenery. Down lights, which highlight the top of a performer's head and shoulders. Down lighting is mainly used to wash or flood an area of the stage with soft or harsh light. Side lighting, which is primarily used to highlight the side of the face, arms, mid-torso and legs. A full quota of side lighting consists of bottom, middle and top lights, which reveal the three tiers of a performer's body. TASK: Using a small toy (action figure, car, Barbie) as a model, demonstrate what each of these positions look like by using a flash light or adjustable lamp to illuminate your model in the 5 positions and create a photo collage of them. The photo of the model should always be taken from the front from the audience’s viewpoint. My example, May the 4th Be With You, was simply staged on my couch with a flashlight. I used the Layout App to make the collage after. Mine are labeled for you and you can do the same if you know how to edit a photo and add text. If you know how to use any software that demonstrates light on an object, you can use that too. Perform an Open Scene
•Pick an open scene from last week that was posted. •Prepare it for a short performance. •You can read the lines if you must. •Record a video of your performance. -Find a friend and perform on Zoom or other program that works and allows you to record it. OR -It can be with just you playing both characters using some fun editing tool you have to the best of your ability. •Post your video in the comments of this assignment. It would help a lot if more people did the homework from last week to provide MORE scenes for use. AUDITION forms and video submissions by end of day please. Let me know if there's an issue. |
